My Personal Journey with Cancer

A cancer diagnosis is a profound moment in life, one that teaches you more about yourself than you could ever imagine. It is undoubtedly frightening, but it also brings out hidden reserves of courage and unveils a flood of emotions that you may have never experienced before. It’s a time of deep self-reflection, of re-evaluating life in ways you never thought possible. And, perhaps most importantly, it becomes a time of rediscovering your strength, purpose, and resilience.

I know this firsthand. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after a few years of intense stress and significant life changes. I was a non-smoker, didn’t drink, and ate clean, living what I thought was a healthy lifestyle. I had no warning signs—aside from feeling a bit more tired than usual, which many women over 45 can relate to. Like most, I kept pushing forward, until one day I felt a lump in my lower abdomen. The moment my diagnosis became reality, my life shifted in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, everything changed. I underwent major abdominal surgery followed by three months of intensive chemotherapy.

Some people have asked me why, as a naturopath, I chose to have chemotherapy. They wondered if I would reject conventional treatments in favor of natural alternatives. My answer is simple: the decision to pursue any form of treatment is deeply personal and depends on the type and stage of cancer you are facing. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and there is no “right” or “wrong” choice. What matters most is that you make the decision that feels right for you and that you have considered all the facts about your condition.  Please know that Your choices will always be respected in my care.

It was through my own experience that I discovered the true value of compassionate, holistic care. I went into working with people affected by cancer because I truly believe there is no better person to support you than someone who has faced the journey themselves. I understand the challenges, the fears, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with this diagnosis and treatment. This is where true empathy lies—walking alongside you with a deep understanding of what you are going through, because I’ve been there myself.

Throughout my journey, I worked closely with my medical team to ensure that all aspects of my health were addressed. I believe in a collaborative approach to healing, where my role is to support and enhance the treatment plan your doctors have laid out for you. Together, we can create a holistic approach that nurtures not only your body but also your mind and spirit.

I understand the complexities of living with cancer. The emotional and physical toll is immense, and some days, depending on the treatment you’re undergoing even the thought of eating a vegetable can feel overwhelming. I am here to walk this path with you, offering support, compassion, and the best care I can provide. Whether it’s managing the side effects of treatment or simply having someone to talk to, I will ensure you are supported every step of the way.

You deserve to feel heard and empowered throughout this journey. It would be an honor to be part of your healing process.
